To haters – JYJ is going to last longer than other idols in the same generation.

.
.

It has been almost two years since the beginning of JYJ vs SM saga. I still remember the numb that I got after reading the news about the lawsuit on July 31st, 2009. It’s hard to believe at that time that only Jaejoong, Yuchun, Junsu would file a lawsuit and say goodbye to SM Entertainment for good later on. The path they have deliberately chosen is one of the most roughest path in the K-entertainment history.

.
.

At first, many people believed that nothing would be able to destroy 5 people strong bond and they would eventually come back as DBSK sooner or later. Even JYJ themselves seemed to stuck with this mindset. Then so many things have changed, lots of realities are harsh and hurtful. Fans were waiting to see 5 people on stage together again but everyone noticed something was different during the last period of 5 Tohoshinki’s work in Japan. The feeling when they sang Stand by U many times on Japanese shows are just…awkward. Then 5 Tohoshinki was done…we got a concert from JUNSU/JEJUNG/YUCHUN and people started to question their decision even more.

.
.

I was one of those people who was so confused during that time but then I realized that I should follow and do whatever I want, believe in the passion of music and life that I can truly feel. So that I won’t be ashamed of my choice and myself.

.
.

Just like these three guys who chose to do what they did to be able to live and don’t regret for the rest of their life. They make me believe that the road to your dream might be hard but it would worth your life.

.
.

To be honest, 2010 was a painful year for JYJ fans and, of course, JYJ themselves. Although we got some good projects, like Mozart!, Sunao Ni Narenakute, Sungkyunkwan Scandal, JYJ did not shine as JYJ as they supposed to be. They still overshadowed by their past, by their old fans, by their antis who used to be DBSK fans or still be DBSK fans in disguise. Also with more pressure from AVEX in Japan and SM in Korea + some unlucky event like visa issue in the US and fallen roof for their Concert in Seoul, they were unable to fully show their potential. Also, it was hard to not be able to notice that, in some degree, these guys still yearned for their good old days.

.

At that time, even fans could not be sure that JYJ would survive in entertainment industry.
.

Luckily, seems like 2011 is another story. I can sense their maturity, security on the top of their sincerity as if I were following an artist in their 30s. It doesn’t matter how many times they would be dragged down to the mud by their old agencies, they still strive for their best. Yet, I still wonder their boundaries. I was asking this questions before since I started to be a TVXQ fan in early 2009. What would they have after they were done with their Tokyo Dome? Doing another concert in Tokyo Dome again? Going back and forth between Japan-Korea and other countries to meet fans, do more concerts? Then what’s next?

.
.

Just in 2011 that these questions have been answered by JYJ. Yes, they got talent. But how much talent could have shone if they were still in SM? How fast the improvement could have been? This fast??? No way.

.
.
Let me talk about them one by one.

.
.

JUNSU

.
.
This guy was amazing from the start. The fact that he was too good since his debut make his improvement hard to be recognized. It was only when he got a chance into musical world that his singing technic was improved tremendously and easily to be noticed. By comparing 2 shows of Greatest Love of All, one before Mozart and the other one after Mozart (in Zuno showcases), I was amazed by how much he could improve his voice. I admit that sometimes I don’t really fond of his voice much but his passion and singing technic is to die for.

(Thanks for his positive attitude did help him and other two members to surpass lots of things.)
.
.

YUCHUN
.
.
He might be the only one who did move on since 2010. Seems like he hit the rock bottom in 2009, just a few month after the lawsuit, then this guy grow and take responsible for his two sensitive friends. He did his job very diligently and flied back and forth to work on his dramas and his role as JYJ members. Do you remember how many times he went out of SKKS drama shooting for concert in Japan (4 – Thanksgivings x2 and A-Nation x2) + Showcases in Asia and the US? But then you ask him again whether he was happy with that? Yes he is!

.
.

JAEJOONG

.
.

Ironnically, people thought this guy was silly and somehow dumb when he was with TVXQ – just a pretty guy with no brain to think about any substantial object, a guy who just goof around and entertain people and not as smart as his members. Seems like the real Kim Jaejoong capability just came out in 2011. I dare say that with SM and TVXQ, Jaejoong would not get any chance to be a stage producer, even 10 years from now. (Oh, of course, they all had their own role and that high-potential role was occupied by other member.) He would never really got a chance. NEVER.

(And now, I am so glad he seems to move on completely and know how to work with his memory. Just treasure it, no one could steal TVXQ past memory from you.)

.
.

JYJ

.
.
If you haven’t noticed, they did improve by every concert. I mean EVERY SINGLE CONCERT. Even the concert in Thailand Day1 and Day2, they learned from their mistake and covered it on the 2nd day. Then, look at Boy’s Letter, I didn’t like that song much when it was first sung in Thailand. I felt it could be better than that. Then, in Taipei, they include Yuchun’s line during Junsu long adlib and Jaejoong also help harmonized Yuchun the part before the adlib. In Beijing, Yuchun and Jaejoong totally sang together for pre-adlib and during adlib part and we got this beautiful harmonize and strong adlib which make the song a lot more pleasant (at least to my ears.)

– Even if there are not much producers who would like to work with them due to whatever reason, they can create their compose their own songs, write their own lyric, arrange their own music and produce their own album.
– Even if they can’t sing on TV, they can create their own stage to sing.
– Even if they are blocked from TV, they still manage to get CF contract. lo
l
Although I admit they have a lots of things to improve, JYJ are on their right track. They got money they deserve. They got their freedom to choose what they want. They got their own way to walk on, not have to follow anyone anymore! Even after their 30s, they would be able to manage to do whatever they want and even if they grow old, people would still go to their concert. Even if they can’t dance, they still can sing with passion and people know JYJ concert is worth every cent we spent!

.
.

And hey…to haters…JYJ Music Essays: Thier Rooms, a notebook with almost zero promotion, an album with zero music video, got a lot of sales and money for JYJ than you could ever imagine of. With zero broadcasting, no fancy costume costing, they still sell so well can take full-house concert. (+ thanks for minimize air-time, they have less cost = higher profit with go directly to their own pocket!)

.

Oh and to those fans who try to protect SM at all cost. No matter how SM blocked JYJ and tried to make their artist challenge with JYJ, JYJ would survive with their own capabilities, not just by the help from big production house and heavy promotion on television!!!

.
.

FACT: Haters can hate JYJ but they won’t be able to say JYJ is talentless nor suck at their work.

I wasn’t really a DBSK fan. I learned about them just recently thru dramas — after which I discovered DBSK, JYJ and how JYJ went against the giant SM. I cannot not admire JYJ. They got the guts and the talent; they deserve to succeed and get people’s support.

CHECK OUT WHY THE SM CONTRACT IS UNFAIR in All Kpop’s “TVXQ’s Income Revealed”.

Our musicians are working hard and don’t deserve this. Let’s show these music giants who’s the boss (WE PEOPLE) by supporting great talents.

  12. JinJJ says:

I hope you had added more of JJ’s achievements after post-lawsuit. Personally, he had more albums and tours and shows than the 2. Maybe highlight that as well instead of focusing too long on the just-beauty-no-brains analogy which also, i think was not the case. As a cassie since 2007, we viewed JJ as the face of the group, doesnt mean he’s “dumb” because he composed most of the songs for TVXQ together with Yuchun 🙂 But yes. JYJ will survie 😉
